As more vaccines get inoculated, the public has been eager than ever to get back to the “normal life” prior to the pandemic. To respond to the vast need, many countries, like Israel and Denmark, bring in the vaccine passport to better control public safety. The vaccine passport is a must to legally and physically enter the restaurants, theaters, or travel around. However, there is still no equal opportunity for everyone to get vaccinated. Many people are waiting in the long line for vaccine registrations. Is the vaccine passport a key to re-open the world or it becomes a source of inequality?
In my opinion, though the vaccine passport may create inequality in society, it is necessary for governments to apply rigid codes that can protect public safety in reality.
At the very beginning of the pandemic, Coronavirus outbursted in China. After roughly a month, the Chinese government implemented the most strict policy that required all red flag cities to be closed down. All airports, train stations, and piers were asked to remain closed for further instructions. People had to stay at home. Many commentators judged that it was an inhumane policy. The answer is yes to some degree because people in that area no longer have the freedom to go out of the home. However, in a long-term perspective, eliminating or controlling the Coronavirus at the early stage is to provide a safer place for everyone in the future.
People’s safety and economy are two sides of the balance. Before the vaccine came out, there was no way to obtain both. One thing is in cost of the anther. Many countries’ policies somehow reflect the choices of their decision-makers.
However, the vaccine provides this probability for us to choose both answers at the same time. Another thing to mention is that there is still a small chance for a person who got vaccinated to get the virus again. Hence, implementing the vaccine passport is necessary and should be strictly applied. Restrictions will also be a force for these people to get vaccinated, which creates a positive circle.
